lana del rey: born to die

the production on this album is sounding a bit too melodramatic and slow but it has a touch of pride and bravado. it’s a bit trippy but in the direction of pop…but not ‘pop’ enough.

after listening to the album a few times last week, i kept imagining kanye working with her (especially after his 10+ tweets of her ‘born to die’ music video and the trend of kanye-like ad-libs in the album production). the production is on point with every track but i can’t stand the same tempo over and over again.

i agree with pitchfork as far as the lyrical content. it can feel repetitive and basic.

this shit is candy to my ears though. sweet in sound but cheap in content.

favorite song: diet mtn dew. the only uptempo song on the album. this song has hip-hop written all over it. the drum loop and piano is a recipe that nas/kanye would destroy lyrically.

overall, it’s original and fresh but i expected a bit more.

6.5/10 …5.5 pitchfork? i find that a tad harsh as you seem to actually believe she can be a big pop star.

Take Care, Drake…really.

Just read this and I’m kinda puzzled.

It’s as fine we really expected Drake’s album to be a hip-hop album…

For what Drake was aiming for, it wasn’t half bad even though I dp agree with the review on this aspect: half the shit he’s saying is a facepalm

As a whole, the flow of this album (track by track) swayed well. Thank Me Later was just a bunch of tracks together.

From his improvement, sound, musicality and etc. I can approve of Take Care.

Do I enjoy it? Not as much. I find myself wanting to skip a few songs…even when I’m high. music is always 10 times better high and shame on you if you haven’t heard music high but whatever your lose but yeah if i had a bitch this shit would be awesome high…

Anyways,

the major reason why I’m fine with this album is because I don’t mind having an album that’s ‘soft’ in my library. Yeah, I’m serious. I’ll save it for when I have some bitches at my dream apartment or when I need to cry about past bitches.

Practice is that perfect song…f’real.

I look at album ratings like rating bitches. I don’t see this album as something decent during a regular day even if it is about bitches. This album can be a 1, but it has a nice vibe around it. This album can be a 10 but what the fuck, the vibe is a force.

Again, I’m fine with this album if the lights are dim or if there’s a nice chick around. Play this album with the homies in the whip though? That’s something you would dare someone to do. So yes, rating this as if I was rating a bitch makes perfect sense.

Keep her close but keep her away from the homies.

On that note, I give Take Care:

5.5/10

I find myself enjoying his mixtapes more than his albums. He fits into that Midwest hip-hop scene IMO. Toronto isn’t that far away from Chicago no, julian that’s a stupid coincidence. He had a decent amount of dopeness on Room From Improvement, Comeback Season & So Far Gone. It’s sad to know that Drake turned from ‘smooth’ to ‘soft’ with his music but at least he could take a few steps back if he’s tired of the criticism yeah right he’s making millions. like he gives a fuck.

Should he go back to his old ways?

I’ll believe in Drizzy’s musicality. I’ll give him a pass to do whatever he wants. 40 and him are making some original shit and I’ll never turn that down.

*thinks about it*

You can say this is 808’s & Heartbreak Pt. 2.

i’m telling you when it is all set and done everybody is gonna look back at kanye’s album and say it changed hip-hop. for better or for worse? of course everyone is going to say it made hip-hop ‘soft’ and shit but boo fuckin’ hoo get used to it, that’s music for you. shit happens.
